The bubble phase in a Sit & Go (SNG) is arguably the most crucial point in the tournament. It's where players are on the cusp of making money, and the dynamics completely shift. Mastering bubble play is essential for consistent SNG profits.

Understanding ICM (Independent Chip Model)

ICM is a mathematical model that assigns a monetary value to each player's chip stack based on their probability of finishing in the money. During the bubble, chip value is not linear. Doubling your stack might not double your equity, but losing half your stack can drastically reduce it.

Key Bubble Strategies

1. Target Short Stacks (if you're a big stack): If you have a large stack and there's a very short stack, use your chip advantage to pressure the medium stacks into folding. They will be desperate to outlast the shortest stack.
2. Tighten Up (if you're a medium stack): Your primary goal is to survive. Avoid marginal spots, especially against aggressive big stacks. Let the short stacks bust each other out.
3. Shove or Fold (if you're a short stack): With a very small stack, you have little fold equity. Wait for a decent hand and shove all-in to try and double up or force folds. You can't afford to play cautiously.
4. Steal Blinds Relentlessly (if you're a big stack): If there are other medium or short stacks at the table, use your big stack to steal blinds from players who are afraid to bust out.
